Fortnite - 83/100

The Premier Battle Royale and Beyond.
Modern Fortnite belongs to a completely different era. While vastly different from its early days, it has evolved into an ecosystem heavily reminiscent of Roblox. It is a project that proves online games can be accessible and complex at the same time, suiting players of all skill levels and ages. Rather than just a shallow cash-grab, it offers a deep platform to follow, shape, and enjoy. Fortnite shattered industry norms by popularizing massive crossovers with actors, musicians, content creators, and other franchises. Yet its greatest strength remains the same: a stylish, fast-paced, arcade-style Battle Royale that constantly changes and grows.
What originally started as a PvE zombie survival concept centered around building was cleverly repurposed by Epic Games. By combining building mechanics with the Battle Royale genre, Epic delivered a fresh vision for online shooters—and it’s no surprise it became a global phenomenon. Beyond mechanics, Epic built a continuous narrative that evolves with every new season.

The core experience remains the Battle Royale mode. Up to 100 players board the balloon-tethered Battle Bus before dropping onto a massive island. The playful tone shows instantly—you can even thank the bus driver before diving. Your goal is simple: survive and claim first place by any means necessary, whether by playing aggressively or hiding until the final duel. The moving Storm forces encounters, applying continuous damage to anyone outside the safe zone.
With 100 Health and up to 100 Shield, players engage using a massive sandbox: standard firearms, grappling gloves, bows, explosives, blasters, and swords. Epic constantly vaults, unvaults, and introduces new items, keeping the meta fresh. Beyond winning, players can focus on level progression, quests, and cosmetic milestones.
Building with wood, brick, and metal remains the mechanical cornerstone that pushed the game into mainstream gaming. On top of that, the controls and overall handling are exceptionally well-crafted. Whether playing on mobile, PC, or gamepads, the controls are smooth, precise, and fully customizable. The physics engine dynamically adjusts across different game modes, allowing for high-skill plays and fluid movement.
However, constant content drops introduce frequent bugs. Players routinely uncover both harmless and game-breaking exploits after major updates. Unfortunately, while Epic's customer support is solid, the moderation team has a history of banning accounts for bugs caused by the game's own code.
As for auxiliary modes—such as music concerts, racing, or custom shooter maps—they offer variety, but none have matched the raw popularity of the main Battle Royale.

Visually, the game looks impressive on Unreal Engine 5, but that fidelity comes at a cost. Storage requirements now range from 50GB to over 100GB with optional assets, and hardware demands keep climbing. Interestingly, the sleeker 2020–2021 art direction holds up with a unique atmosphere that some players prefer over the modern, heavy engine update.
Soundtrack-wise, Fortnite features solid original tracks alongside licensed songs. The narrative works in the background: while optional, it subtly ties together every character skin and crossover into a cohesive multiverse.
For free-to-play players, the economy remains fair with zero pay-to-win elements. However, Epic’s recent adjustments to the V-Bucks economy signal a shifts in strategy. The Battle Pass price was lowered to 800 V-Bucks, but the free track now awards only 200 V-Bucks (down from 300), making it impossible to infinitely roll over passes without completing extra bonus pages. Additionally, bringing back legacy skins shows Epic is willing to make unexpected monetization choices at any moment.

Verdict:
Fortnite is a live-service titan that you might not play every single day, but will always return to. It is an evolving digital ecosystem where new updates may alter the meta, but never destroy its core identity. With stunning visuals, responsive controls, and diverse gameplay mechanics, it remains the benchmark for modern Battle Royales.
